Blog Surfing

You've all done it. You start to check your favorite blogs, "just for a minute." It's late and the kids/spouse are in bed. You click on a favorite link from someone else's blog. You skim through that one, then click on another link on that blog that looks interesting. Half an hour and ten degrees of separation later, you're reading political commentary from someone in Bolivia.

There's got to be some name for this already, but I call it "blog surfing."

We went to Lake Maria State Park today for a "Junior Snow Ranger" event. They had free snacks and a craft activity in their little hut/meeting room that was warmed by a wood-burning stove. It was a balmy 20 degrees and the sun was shining!

It was fun, but the timing was a little awkward. The schedule said there would be a snowshoe hike at 9 am, the kids program at 10, a winter photography workshop at 11, then a light lunch at 12. We didn't sign up for the snowshoe hike, figuring that the baby would not tolerate that real well, but came at 10 for the kids program. When the kids program was over, some kids went on a group snowshoe hike, but there weren't enough snowshoes for everyone, so the rest of us were sort of hanging around the hut and trying to keep the kids quiet while the presentation for the winter photography was going on. We didn't stay for the lunch since the kids were getting pretty restless by that time.

Despite this minor glitch, I would highly recommend going to Lake Maria and hope we can go there again for some other programs (maple syruping, anyone?) However, you might want to curtail your visit or bring your own sleds, skates, or snowshoes if you've got little ones and it's a winter event.
